My Holy Grail Products

Updated: Dec 12, 2021

Today I thought I would share with you my holy grail products. I’ve tried a lot of products (and I mean A LOT) over the past 5 years of working in the beauty industry. Through sampling, gratis, and various swatching rampages I feel like I’ve found some of THE best products out there. Some of these products have been out for ages and some are a little newer to sales floors, but I honestly don’t know what I did in my life before them!

Now, as I’ve said before, I’ve tried a lot of products over the years so I don’t take this “holy grail” business lightly. It has to be a product that I love to use on myself, a product I would use on clients, and one that I would hand over my first born child for. …Ok, maybe that last one was a lie but STILL! I have to really, really, REALLY love it. And I do! So let’s get into these bad boys.

1. NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer ($30.00)

When I was working at Sephora as a makeup artist I think I started to have a bit of a Pavlov effect. When I’d hear “concealer” my hand automatically reached for this beauty. This is a full-coverage matte concealer, BUT WAIT, I’m telling you no matter what your skin type is you can use this. My face makes a desert look like an ocean and I still use this. This is the most natural-looking concealer I have ever used. A little bit of this goes a very long way too, but what I love the most about it is that you could be looking to do some Instagram crazy highlighting and concealing or you could be the person who wears literally no foundation and just concealer and it still works! It blends like nobody’s business and there’s a HUGE color range.

2. Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade ($18.00)

I know cream can be a hard transition from pencil brow products or even powder brow products, but once you get the hang of how to use a cream you’ll never want to use anything else. And that’s where I’m at today… I never want to use anything besides the Anastasia dipbrow. I have tried other creams in the past and even since using this but I always come back to my tried and true dipbrow. This baby will stay on ALL day and comes in a wide range of colors. I’ve used this on people with full luscious brows and even cancer survivors with no brows at all! She does it all, my friend.

3. Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation ($40.00)

I have to admit, when the hype over Fenty came about I was a little surprised that the Teint Idole foundation was never brought up. When I first got into the beauty industry it was made quite clear that foundations just didn’t go light enough or dark enough. They were strictly a middle spectrum of colors, the “top” sellers if you will. But then the fabulous Teint Idole foundation made its way into my life. This is a perfect foundation for events, everyday, and textured skin. The finish is right in between matte and dewy (even though I’m pretty sure it’s marketed as matte), medium to full coverage, and the most natural-looking undertones you’ll find out there. They now have 40 shades too!

4. Yves Saint Laurent Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain #7 ($36.00)

This is without a doubt the most bougie lip product I own and WELL worth it. As a pale lady, it’s quite hard to find a nude lipstick. It’s either too brown, too pink, or too dark. And don’t even get me started on what happens when you venture into the light colors… ugh, it would make a ganguro girl scream. Not cute. Not only is this the most perfect pink-brown-lightish nude color, but it is a ridiculously light formula. We’re talking a formula so light it feels like water. It gets extra points for being a lip stain too. Gotta keep that baby on there all day, you know? So go my pale princesses and venture into the land of nudes because there’s finally a perfect shade for us!

5. NYC Liquid Eyeliner ($3.00 yes girl, 3.)

I mean come on… a $3 liquid liner that makes all my winged eyeliner dreams come true? I can’t pass that up. I love a good felt tip liner but this is a paintbrush-like applicator (which I personally like better). It makes the sharpest, blackest, and most matte liner ever. Sadly, I don’t know what’s going on with the NYC company but it’s pretty hard to find this liner now in stores. So I’ve been bulk buying on amazon like a madwoman.

6. Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray ($31.00)

I never thought I’d ever been the person to really see a difference in my makeup wear with a setting spray. They all just felt the same. Until the day I used the cover fx illuminating setting spray. The illumination is just enough and not overbearing, while the actual mist itself is nice and fine. It makes me look airbrushed after I’ve used it!

7. Ardell False Lashes #105 ($5.00)

Awe, the lashes that have stood the test of time. These bad boys have seen me through my darkest goth days in middle school, to my rainbow makeup high school days, to today when my makeup is way more blended out and …well less scary looking. If Ardell ever decided to stop making these I don’t know what I would do. They can be dressed up or dressed down. You can have crazy makeup or simple makeup. These are just the perfect amount of length and volume. I LOVE them! (Probably wouldn’t recommend these for monolids though, sorry.)

8. Belif Moisture Bomb Moisturizer ($38.00)

I truly belif (ha, see what I did there?) that my face should’ve cracked and fallen off years ago. When I lived in Denver, Colorado my skin was probably at its worst. Dry, flaky, overproducing oil to combat the dryness, which then led to breakouts, which led me to pick at my skin, and then it would get all red and angry at me. Pretty sexy, amiright? No, but seriously, when I started using the moisture bomb from belif my skin literally changed in a day. They aren’t kidding about 26 hours of retained moisture! I stopped getting out of the shower with that tight scary feeling in my skin and my face was clearing up! Even though I now live in a basically polar opposite climate to Colorado, I still use this every single day twice a day. I’m probably on jar #3,000 by now. Take my word for it, dry face, you need this.

9. Sephora Collection Classic Double-Ended Multitasker and Concealer #202 ($24.00)

I love me a nice beauty blender but sometimes I still feel like they’re soaking up my product. When I want that flawlessly even full coverage look I need a dense brush that’s going to blend out quickly and leave me streak-free. And this is twice as good because you get a concealer brush on the other end. Thank you brush creator who knows I’m lazy!

10. Sephora Coconut Cleansing & Exfoliating Wipes ($7.50)

One of the sad things about having dry skin is that you normally don’t have the luxury of being lazy when it comes to taking your makeup off. Most makeup wipes out there aren’t even remotely hydrating enough that you could just come home from a hard day of work, wipe your face off, and die in bed. You’re most likely going to lay there for a couple of minutes before you realize your face feels so tight you can’t make expressions and your pores are screaming at you to put some damn moisturizer on.

So, up and at ‘em, you go to put your moisturizer on and we’re suddenly sucked into the vortex of 30-minute long skincare routines. NOT TODAY THOUGH! These coconut wipes from Sephora are super hydrating, smell amazing, and they’re very affordable. Now you can go be lazy about removing your makeup… go ahead, girl.

11. Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution Serum ($50.00)

Yikes! I just winced at that price too, but I promise you it wouldn’t be on the list if it wasn’t a HOLY GRAIL miracle worker. Remember I don’t take this stuff lightly. So this is a serum that helps with dark spots. Whoopty-Doo. Been there done that, right? Wrong. This is not like any other dark spot serum I’ve used. Normally they smell like oranges and you’re all “Yay vitamin C!” But as soon as you stop using those products, BOOM, dark spots are back. This serum works to brighten dark spots from deep within the skin and it works its way out instead of vice versa (which is why most dark spot correctors stop working as soon as you stop using them). It gets to the root of the dark pigmentation and starts lightening it up from there instead of lighting the pigmentation from just a surface level. This works on ALL skin tones too.

12. Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil ($105.00)

If you’re going to splurge anywhere in your makeup/skincare routine, splurge in your night serums. Whether you’re new to anti-aging products or you’re a pro, this is an excellent serum to use. Sunday Riley’s brand is known for being potent natural ingredients. Top of the line, baby! So yes this is a retinol, but a gentle one. When I put this on at night, I wake up the next morning with baby soft skin that’s bright and fresh feeling!

Thank you for reading about my holy grail products, and I will see you in my next post!
